Nelson County Parks & Recreation

figure02.pngThe Nelson County Department of Parks and Recreation supports a weekly ‘open’ playgroup on Sundays. The ‘open’ play is held either indoors at the Nelson County High School (during colder months of the year), or outdoors at the Rockfish Valley Community Center (during the warmer months).

At both locations, blue tape is used to outline the pickleball courts and portable nets are used. Conny Roussos coordinates the ‘open’ playgroup held at these 2 locations.

If you wish to be placed on the email notification list for weekly pickleball play send an email to roussos_c@lynchburg.edu with your name and email address.

The cost is $2 per player.

Wintergreen Racquet Sports Facility

figure05.pngThe Wintergreen Racquet Sports Facility is only available to Wintergreen Club Members and Wintergreen Resort lodging guests. Wintergreen homeowners and their invited guests also have access to the Rodes Farm facility in the Stoney Creek Community.

Although the Wintergreen Resort and Wintergreen homeowners have pickleball and tennis courts, these courts can only be used by lodging guests at the Wintergreen Resort, members of the Wintergreen Club, or Wintergreen homeowners.

(Home rental accommodations throughout the mountain and at Stoney Creek that are not managed by Wintergreen Resort (ex. Vrbo and Airbnb) do not have access to the Wintergreen Racquet Sports Facility.)

Rockfish Valley Community Center (RVCC)

figure04.pngPickleball players here can enjoy the beautiful mountain vistas of Humpback, 3 Ridges, and Crawford Knob, all seen from the courts year-round. Players bring their own net(s) and blue tape has been used to mark off 3 courts on the basketball court. Currently, plans are being developed to build 1-4 separate pickleball courts next year. In the meantime, RVCC requires that anyone wishing to play pickleball on the basketball court must first make a reservation with the RVCC Office at 434-361-0100 or rockfishcc@gmail.com. RVCC offers several public restrooms, a public lounge with free WiFi, and great coffee. Check out their website for information on classes, gallery+gifts, food, thrift store, and other businesses located at the Center.

If you are interested in Sunday ‘open’ play at RVCC coordinated by Conny Roussos, simply email a request to roussos_c@lynchburg.edu with your name and email address.
